Shooting for Ernest Journal Issue 7

**Nothing quite like the feeling of seeing your image on the cover of a magazine.**

Over the past few years I’ve done work from a small run magazine called Ernest Journal. The magazine aims to explore curious history with folk tales and adventures outdoors, it had been great to be involved in and when they got in touch last year to ask I’ve I’d like to come on assignment for 4 days in East Anglia I was all over it.

I packed my gear up and headed over to meet the team at a campsite in Sussex, which we would use as a base while we went out to cover the stories and features that were needed.

The four days were taken up with exploring abandoned World War two weapons testing facilities, eroding beaches and lost coastlines. The main feel of this whole piece was to capture the almost bleak feel of some of these places whilst telling the story of their curious past.

I knew the team were keen for me to shoot the cover for the magazine on this trip and as such I made a few adjustments to the way I usually shoot, mainly shooting portrait much more and as I shoot visualising room for the title text and front page copy. I’m really pleased to say that they did use one of my images which I’m super proud of.

I took my usual gear with me and the weather sealing on the XT2 came in very handing during night walking and while wandering around shingle spits and abandoned buildings.
